4 years in video.
Taking initial inspiration from Cesar Kuriyama’s ‘1 Second Everyday’ (https://vimeo.com/37792362) and social documentary films like Edward Burtynsky’s ‘Manufactured Landscapes’ I decided to make this video.
Originally I planned to make this video for my own viewing, but I decided to share when thinking that I would be interested to see other peoples versions. So I invited you to make and share your own film.
I was surprised at how much I learnt about myself by making this. A lot of times I thought things like ‘I completely forgot about that’, ‘What was I thinking’ or ‘That was crazy’. One second of video can bring back detailed memories and experiences.
Self reflection is something I don’t usually think about but it can be quite powerful.
The concept is simple, gather all the videos you have shot over a select amount of time and compose quick snapshots of moments into a chronological order. No fancy stuff.
1.Try and stick to a chronological timeline, It’s more interesting to see development over time.
2.Keep it short.
3.Use film you have shot only.
4.No special effects.
5.It’s not about just selecting the best bits, the most mundane events were still experiences.
This video might be a complete waste of 10 minutes of your life, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
If you have an archive of snapshot videos have a go at making your own, you will be surprised at what you learn and how you reflect upon yourself.
So the degree show was a great success, a lot of fun and hard work paid off. I am hoping to move back down to London as soon as possible and can’t wait to get involved with the creative buzz.
I have a few new and exciting ideas for projects which I am itching to start, mostly involving cgi. I will post updates on these as I go along.
See below my images from the exhibition…….
Thought I would post a quick update whilst my printer is churning out a few business cards in preparation for tomorrow. I am going to London to set up the degree show for tuesday night (22nd May). Make sure you make it to Blackall Studios, Leonard Street, EC2A 4QS on tuesday night for the Hype 20 Show!
Here is a sneak peak of what I have been doing over the last week for the show.
See you there 6-10pm.
